  • 1 cup + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground allspice
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk

Salted Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/41/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Brown Butter: Melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown. Set aside to cool.
  2. Spiced Apples: Toss apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and brown sugar. Set aside.
  3. Gooey Cream Cheese Layer: Beat cream cheese, egg, egg yolk, and powdered sugar until smooth. Set aside.
  4. Brown Butter Spice Cake: Combine dry ingredients, then mix in brown butter, sugar, vanilla, buttermilk, egg, and egg yolk. Pour into pan.
  5. Salted Caramel Sauce: Cook sugar until amber, add butter, cream, salt, and vanilla. Let cool.
