  • 1 large Honeycrisp apple
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • Heavy cream or a beaten egg
  • 1/4 cup store-bought caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red or white miso, adjust to taste, optional

  2. Apple Filling: Peel and dice the apple. In a bowl, mix the diced apple with sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Assembly: Roll out the puff pastry and cut into circles. Place a spoonful of apple filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges.
  4. Bake: Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with heavy cream or beaten egg. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Caramel Sauce: In a small saucepan, heat the caramel sauce with miso until combined. Drizzle over the baked ‘doughnuts’.
  6. Serve: Top with optional toppings like pepitas, crushed pretzels, chocolate chips, mochi bites, or ice cream.
