Cookie Dough
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Mix-ins and Toppings
- 1 ½ cups red and green M&Ms, divided (1 cup mixed into dough, ½ cup pressed on tops)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add wet ingredients: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Add M&Ms: Gently fold in 1 cup of M&Ms into the cookie dough.
- Form cookie dough balls: Scoop out tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Add toppings: Press the remaining ½ cup of M&Ms onto the tops of the cookie dough balls.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- You can substitute the red and green M&Ms with regular M&Ms or chocolate chips for a different twist.
- Make sure to not overbake the cookies to keep them soft and chewy.
