Pita Dough:
- 1 cup water 90º-95ºF
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
- 2 ½ – 3 cups all-purpose flour divided
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder* optional
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil plus more for the bowl
Garlic Butter:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- shredded parmesan cheese optional, for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Pita Dough: Combine water, yeast, sugar, and 1 cup of flour in a bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add salt, garlic powder, olive oil, and gradually mix in the remaining flour until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise until doubled in size.
- Make the Garlic Butter: Melt butter in a saucepan, then mix in garlic powder, salt, and parsley. Set aside.
- Shape and Bake: Divide the dough into balls, roll them out, and bake in a preheated oven until puffed and golden. Brush with garlic butter and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a stronger garlic flavor, increase the amount of garlic powder in the dough
- Experiment with different herbs in the garlic butter for added flavor
