  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 ½3 cups all-purpose flour divided
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder* optional
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil plus more for the bowl

Garlic Butter:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • shredded parmesan cheese optional, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pita Dough: Combine water, yeast, sugar, and 1 cup of flour in a bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add salt, garlic powder, olive oil, and gradually mix in the remaining flour until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter: Melt butter in a saucepan, then mix in garlic powder, salt, and parsley. Set aside.
  3. Shape and Bake: Divide the dough into balls, roll them out, and bake in a preheated oven until puffed and golden. Brush with garlic butter and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
