Description

Golden Greek Honey Pie, also known as Melopita, is a delightful dessert made with layers of flaky phyllo dough filled with a creamy semolina custard flavored with honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Topped with toasted sesame seeds, this pie is a perfect combination of sweet and savory flavors.

  • 8 sheets of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semolina flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup honey, warmed
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard: In a saucepan, whisk together semolina flour, eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Assemble the Pie: Brush a sheet of phyllo dough with melted butter, layer another sheet on top, and repeat until you have 4 layers. Pour the custard over the phyllo layers. Cover with 4 more layers of buttered phyllo dough.
  3. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. Drizzle warm honey over the top and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
