Description

This Green Bean Casserole is a classic side dish perfect for any gathering. Fresh green beans and mushrooms are baked in a creamy sauce and topped with crunchy fried onions for a deliciously comforting dish.

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed and halved
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 8 ounces cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups fried onions, divided

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, finely grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Blanch Green Beans: Blanch green beans in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  3. Sauté Mushrooms: In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté mushrooms until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and add garlic.
  4. Make Sauce: Add remaining butter to the skillet, stir in flour, then slowly whisk in broth and cream until thickened.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Mix green beans, mushrooms, and half of fried onions with the sauce, then transfer to a casserole dish.
  6. Add Topping: Combine panko, parmesan, and remaining fried onions. Sprinkle over the casserole.
  7. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • You can also use canned or frozen green beans for convenience.
  • Feel free to add extra seasonings like thyme or paprika for more flavor.
