Main Ingredients:
- 1 lb fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed and halved
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 8 ounces cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups fried onions, divided
Topping:
- 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, finely grated
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Blanch Green Beans: Blanch green beans in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- Sauté Mushrooms: In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté mushrooms until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and add garlic.
- Make Sauce: Add remaining butter to the skillet, stir in flour, then slowly whisk in broth and cream until thickened.
- Combine Ingredients: Mix green beans, mushrooms, and half of fried onions with the sauce, then transfer to a casserole dish.
- Add Topping: Combine panko, parmesan, and remaining fried onions. Sprinkle over the casserole.
- Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Notes
- You can also use canned or frozen green beans for convenience.
- Feel free to add extra seasonings like thyme or paprika for more flavor.
