Description

This Hobo Casserole Ground Beef Recipe is a comforting and hearty dish that combines layers of thinly sliced potatoes, seasoned ground beef, and a cheesy topping. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or potluck gathering.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a casserole dish.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Layer Potatoes: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the casserole dish. Season with salt, pepper, and half of the Italian seasoning.
  4. Add Beef Mixture: Spread the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
  5. Repeat Layers: Add the remaining potatoes on top of the beef. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  6. Add Cheese & Broth: Pour beef broth over the casserole and top with a mixture of cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can customize this casserole by adding vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • For a spicier kick, add some red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
