Description

Hobo Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish made with layers of ground beef, potatoes, creamy soups, and cheese, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 can (10.7 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup with or without garlic added
  • 1 can (10.7 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat the oven and spray a pan. Cook beef, onions, and garlic until browned. Drain and season.
  2. Layer: Place potatoes in the pan, add beef, pour half of the soup mixture, and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  3. Repeat: Repeat the layers and top with remaining cheese.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake, then bake uncovered until golden brown.
  5. Rest: Let it rest before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly and evenly for even cooking.
  • Let the casserole rest to enhance flavors.
  • Consider using pre-chopped onions and garlic for convenience.
  • Ensure even layers for best results.
  • Cover the casserole while baking to prevent drying out.
