Description

These Moroccan meatballs are a flavorful and aromatic dish made with a blend of spices like cumin, coriander, and cinnamon. Served with a tomato-based sauce, they are perfect for a cozy dinner.


Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

Sauce:

  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Extra fresh cilantro and parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatballs: In a bowl, mix all the meatball ingredients until well combined. Shape into small meatballs.
  2. Fry the meatballs: Heat olive oil in a pan and fry the meatballs until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce: In the same pan, add diced tomatoes, tomato paste, honey, chicken broth, and lemon juice. Simmer for a few minutes.
  4. Combine: Add the meatballs back to the pan and simmer in the sauce until cooked through.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and parsley before serving.
