Description

Pasta alla Sorrentina is a classic Italian dish featuring pasta tossed in a rich tomato sauce, topped with melty mozzarella, and baked to perfection. It’s a comforting and flavorful meal that the whole family will love.

Main Ingredients:

  • 400g (14 oz) pasta (penne or rigatoni)
  • 800g (28 oz) canned whole tomatoes or fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • 250g (9 oz) mozzarella cheese, diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 50g (1/4 cup) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil leaves, to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Boil pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a large pan, heat olive oil and sauté onions and garlic until translucent. Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, and fresh basil. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  3. Assemble: Add cooked pasta to the sauce and mix well. Pour half of the pasta into a baking dish. Top with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan. Repeat with the remaining pasta and cheeses.
  4. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil leaves and enjoy hot.

Notes

  • You can add cooked Italian sausage or ground beef for a meaty version.
  • Feel free to use fresh herbs like oregano or thyme for added flavor.
