Description

This Texas Toast Sloppy Joes Recipe combines the classic flavors of sloppy joes with a cheesy twist, all sandwiched between slices of savory five-cheese Texas toast.

Ingredients

Scale

Sloppy Joe Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

  • 13.5 ounces Five Cheese Texas Toast, 8 slices
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded (Sargento Creamery Mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  2. Prepare Sloppy Joe Mixture: In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onion until translucent. Add cooked beef, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Assemble: Place Texas toast slices on a baking sheet. Top each slice with the sloppy joe mixture and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve: Enjoy hot and gooey Texas Toast Sloppy Joes!

Notes

  • You can customize the cheese by using your favorite blend or type.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the sloppy joe mixture.
