For the Beef:
- 2 lbs flank steak
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 4–6 tablespoons coconut oil or cooking oil of choice
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (use tamari for gluten-free)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 3 green onions, white and green parts thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
cooked rice and extra sliced green onions for serving
Instructions
- Slice the flank steak and coat with cornstarch: Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain and coat with cornstarch in a ziploc bag.
- Mix the sauce: Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, water, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes in a bowl.
- Cook the beef: Cook the beef in coconut oil until crispy, then set aside.
- Cook the sauce: Stir fry green onions, garlic, and ginger, then add the sauce and cook until thickened.
- Combine and serve: Add the beef back to the pan, mix with the sauce, and serve over rice.
Notes
- For best results, shake off excess cornstarch before cooking the beef.
- Serve immediately to keep the beef crispy.
- Make it gluten-free by using tamari instead of soy sauce.
