Description

Indulge in the deliciousness of these Easy Cheese Danishes, with a flaky pastry dough filled with sweet cream cheese and topped with a buttery streusel.


Ingredients

Pastry Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tsp active dried yeast
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp sour cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 3 oz unsalted butter

Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 1 1/3 cup of cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 1/2 cup jam of choice (optional)

Streusel Topping:

  • 1/3 cup of flour
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 3 tbsp of melted butter

Egg wash:

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 Tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Check the yeast: Combine yeast with milk and sugar, allow to proof.
  2. Make the Pastry Dough: Mix all dough ingredients until smooth.
  3. Add butter & knead: Incorporate butter and knead until tacky.
  4. Let rise until doubled: Allow dough to rise in a warm place.
  5. Meanwhile, make the cream cheese filling: Whip together cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla.
  6. Make the streusel topping: Combine flour, sugar, and melted butter.
  7. Make the egg wash: Whisk together egg yolks and water.
  8. Divide & shape the pastry dough: Divide dough into pieces and shape into balls.
  9. Fill with cream cheese filling: Fill each dough piece with cream cheese filling.
  10. Let rise until doubled: Allow danishes to double in size.
  11. Brush with egg wash & top with streusel: Brush danishes with egg wash and sprinkle with streusel.
  12. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven until golden.

Notes

  • You can add jam or dried fruits to the cream cheese filling for variety.
